Do you need to book to visit the Citadel of Dinant?

Booking is not required for individual visitors. Tickets can be purchased online or on site. For groups and schools, advance booking is recommended.

What is the visit like?

The visit is self-guided, using the HistoPad augmented reality guide included in the ticket price. The average visit lasts around 1 hour and 30 minutes.

What are the opening hours of the Citadel of Dinant?

Opening hours change throughout the year. The Citadel is open all year round, with extended hours from April to September and shorter hours in winter. Full details are available on the Prices & Opening Hours page.

How do you get to the Citadel of Dinant and where can you park?

The Citadel of Dinant is easy to reach by car. Free parking for cars and coaches is available at the top of the site. You can also reach the Citadel by train or on foot from the lower entrance, by climbing the iconic 408-step staircase — a real challenge, but worth it for the views over the valley.

Is the Citadel of Dinant accessible to visitors with reduced mobility?

Access for visitors with reduced mobility is only possible from the top of the site, via the upper entrance car park. Due to the historic nature of the fortress, some areas remain difficult to access.

Can you eat at the Citadel of Dinant?

Yes, several options are available:

  • the La Citadelle restaurant, located at the bottom of the site, at the foot of the staircase
  • the Les Canons cafeteria, located at the top of the site
  • a refreshment bar at the entrance to the Citadel
